In the past few years, East Downtown has started to build a reputation as a destination for hip Houstonians to live, work and play. Places like Moon-Tower Inn and BBVA Compass Stadium have helped raise the status of the region, paving the way for new and interesting businesses to open. Neil’s Bahr capitalizes on the new quirky, independent personality of the revitalized EaDo.
A refuge for self-proclaimed nerds and pop culture enthusiasts alike, Neil’s Bahr is unlike any other drinking establishment in Houston. From its wall of comic books to the cozy atmosphere or the many fun – if not quirky – events, Neil’s Bahr is the perfect place to let your inner nerd out.
Bedecked in Star Wars memorabilia, Neil’s Bahr will make you feel right at home discussing your favorite comic book super villain or showing off your Super Smash Brothers expertise on the Nintendo 64. The bar frequently holds video game tournaments, and winners are awarded gift cards, glory, and all the bragging rights that come with button-mashing your opponents into submission. If cards are your game, there are usually people around playing Magic: The Gathering. The bar itself boasts a decent selection of liquor and local beer. Drink specials happen almost daily and, while they don’t have a kitchen, they do have a pop-up grill to serve food for Monday Steak Nights.

• The bar is named after Neils Bohr, a Danish Nobel Prize-Winning physicist. The outdoor signage is a molecular diagram with a martini olive nucleus.
