Get ready for a Hukilau, throw on your best Hawaiian shirt and head to this unassuming theme bar for a flaming “Shipwrecked on Tiki Island” cocktail. Lei Low is located at the end of a strip center next to a dry cleaner and a convenience store (look for the canoe planter), but don’t judge this bar by its cover. As you walk inside you are transported to a tiki oasis with glass buoys, bamboo, vintage tiki mugs and giant peacock chairs as a backdrop to the sounds of Arthur Lyman’s exotic tunes.
Lei Low is certified as the only true tiki bar in Houston. Its bar serves up drinks blended with real fruit juices and concoctions based on original recipes of tiki gods. You can order two- and four-person servings — and you’ll even find a few Hawaiian beers. If you’re having trouble deciding, don’t be afraid to ask the bartenders for suggestions. They are all very friendly and will make you something off-menu if nothing sparks your tiki torch.
• Lei Low doesn’t serve food, but you can order from any of the surrounding restaurants. We suggest keeping with the tiki theme and ordering a Hawaiian pizza from Pink’s.
• Be warned: Don’t be tricked by the sweet taste of these drinks; they pack a real punch!
